Job Description
Summary:
The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for a Safety Program Coordinator position in the Facilities Maintenance Section.
Duties
Incumbent serves as the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO) assistant (Mid-level) with responsibility for assisting the POSHO and/or senior level POSHO Assistant in carrying out the day to day functions of the Office of Safety Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Office of Fire Protection (FIRE) programs at post as required by 15 FAM 900 and 15 FAM 800; assures that all Government owned and leased property in country meet the requirements of 15 FAM 253.5, 15 FAM 432, 15 FAM 840, and 15 FAM 950, as well as other related Departmental requirements which may exist. Assists in conducting safety surveys, preparing reports, and conducting follow up inspections to ensure compliance. Provides safety trainings in conjunction with SHEM requirements and performs administrative duties.
Requirements
- All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a Public Trust Security Clearance.
- All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and, may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
- Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the maintenance or construction field performing repair work as a maintenance supervisor or team lead or in the field of occupational safety as a safety inspector or quality control assurance inspector is required.
Job Knowledge:
A good understanding of local occupational safety and health regulations is required. Knowledge of local construction policies and local labor laws is required. In depth knowledge of occupational safety and health standards, safety regulations, industry best practices, methods of assessing safety hazards and controls is required. Knowledge of investigative techniques for conducting investigations for all types of mishaps is required. Good knowledge of local building codes is required.
Skills And Abilities:
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and database management, spreadsheets, etc. is required. Must possess good written and oral skills to conduct trainings and daily communication. Basic mathematical skills to analyze safety related data is required. A valid general driver’s license is required. Must have held a valid driver’s license for at least five years.
